Read the facts about conventional pain killers and get more info about natural health remedies as alternatives...

If you are unfortunate enough to be suffering from chronic pain, you might be tempted to reach for the nearest conventional pain relief

This is perfectly understandable, and I do admit that I do take conventional pain relief myself, at times…

But please, don’t be tempted to rely on this as a long term pain relief treatment. Alternative pain relief is a much safer option - and can actually be more effective!

While conventional medications for pain, such as aspirin, paracetamol, steroids and anti-inflammatory drugs, do work very well in the short term, they are generally really not appropriate or suitable for long term use.

Always remember to consult your healthcare provider before taking any decisions regarding your health.

Mild Pain Relief

Aspirin

  • Also relieves inflammation
  • Can irritate the stomach lining. (Take soluble aspirin after meals, to help with this.)

Paracetamol

  • Does not act on inflammation.
  • Can cause liver damage, and allergic reactions.

Narcotic Pain Relief

  • Codeine
  • Morphine
  • Oxycodone
  • Hydromorphone hydrochloride
  • Pentazocine
  • These are drugs that ’switch off’ pain receptors in the brain
  • They can also ’dull’ the senses, and make you feel drowsy.
  • They nearly always cause addiction and physical dependency.
  • They can affect breathing.
  • And cause nausea and constipation.

Anti-Inflammatory Drugs

Steroids

  • Increased appetite and digestive problems.
  • Weight gain
  • Problems with sleeping patterns
  • Nausea and vomiting

N.S.A.I.D.s (Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs)

  • Ibuprofen
  • Naproxen
  • Ketoprofen
  • Indometacin
  • Sulindac
  • Can cause:
    • stomach irritation and bleeding
    • diarrhea
    • headaches
    • kidney and liver damage
    • fluid retention
    • allergic reactions

Tricyclic Antidepressants

  • These change the way that the brain processes pain signals, so that you become less sensitive to pain.
  • Can cause:
    • constipation
    • lethargy and fatigue
    • dry mouth
    • heart problems

Note these Important Facts about Pain

  • If your pain is a new pain, don’t necessarily be put off from taking conventional medications. These work well in the short term, and are unlikely to do much damage with occasional use.
  • Always consult a healthcare professional for new, or unexplained pain.
  • Never neglect pain, or wait until it is unbearable before treating it.
  • Pain relief drugs work better the sooner you take them … Pain that has become long standing and unbearable becomes far more difficult to control…
