    • red meat

    • aubergines
    • potatoes
    • peppers
    • tomatoes
    • spinach
    • acid foods:
      • lemons, oranges, grapefruits
      • strawberries
      • rhubarb
  • Try:
    • 1 cup per day of:
      • carrot juice
      • cucumber juice
      • beetroot juice
    • 2 – 4 cups per day of celery juice
    • Juicers can be bought quite inexpensively at a wide range of shops and supermarkets, and are very quick and easy to use.

Lifestyle and Exercise

  • While a strenuous exercise programme isn’t recommended for arthritis sufferers, keeping as active as possible is really beneficial.
  • Gentle exercise, especially non-load bearing exercise, is advised – try swimming, or special exercises from a physiotherapist.
  • Exercises like:
    • yoga
    • pilates
    • t’ai chi
    can also help.
  • Caution: If you have severe rheumatoid arthritis, check with your doctor before starting any exercise programme – it is usually better to rest up.

Weight

  • If you are overweight, a sensible weight-loss programme can be one of your best natural remedies for arthritis.
  • Being overweight can actually be a factor in the development of arthritis (especially osteoarthritis), so lessening the stress on your joints, by losing a little, can really help.
