Coldsores - Lysine
by lisak
(uk)
I get coldsores when I am run down, stressed & from sun exposure, once I got one I usually had them repeatedly for a few months.
A particularly bad one about 6 years ago was about the size if a 2p piece! (I have spent god knows how much on zovirax etc - little use one you already have one.) I was recommended lysine which i think is an amino acid?
I didn't have another for several years after taking a short course of tablets bought at H&B.
As soon as I feel a tingle I get them down & seems to do the trick. I have recommended this to many people & have had heard that it helped them too.
I'm giving this info but must declare that, although I use some I am Very skeptical about the marketing of natural remedies & about the anecdotal nature of 'evidence' but, this is my experience. (conflicting views I know)
Also prevention being better than cure I have found that certain foods are a trigger. Sadly dark chocolate is mine.
Hope this is useful.

Also: when coldsores are healing I use sudocream - which is zinc cream for babys bums it seems to help but looks awful so only put on at bedtime!
