If you have all over muscle and joint pain and stiffness, not caused by over exertion, or an injury, it is possible that you are suffering from Fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is a very troubling condition, which is commonly linked to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (C.F.S. – also known as M.E. or C.F.-I.D.S.).

If you are struggling through Fibromyalgia, I know how you feel. I have had Fibromyalgia in connection with my M.E. (C.F.S./C.F.-I.D.S.) since January 2007. Although I am actually largely free from pain most days now, I will still have some days where I feel like I’ve been knocked down by a truck.

I really hope you can get some muscle and joint pain relief from these natural health remedies suggestions…

Always remember to consult your healthcare provider before taking any decisions regarding your health.

Symptoms of Fibromyalgia

  • Muscle and joint pain and stiffness are the most common symptoms of Fibromyalgia.
  • The pains can be all over the body, in muscles and joints – commonly in the arms and legs, with ‘sore spots’ in the:
    • shoulders
    • hips
    • knees
    • elbows
  • It is the ‘sore spots’ (also known as ‘tender spots’) which help to confirm a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia.
  • The pain may also come with a burning, tingling or throbbing sensation.
  • As if this wasn’t bad enough, Fibromyalgia also comes with what is usually termed ‘non-restorative sleep’. This means that you are likely to have difficulty sleeping. But, even when you don’t, you will wake up feeling tired and unrefreshed - as if you hadn’t slept at all.
  • Fibromyalgia sufferers are also likely to suffer from anxiety or depression.
  • Symptoms are usually worse if you feel at all:
    • tired
    • upset
    • anxious
    • depressed
    • experience extreme temperatures
    • or sudden temperature fluctuations
    • any illness or infection

Causes

  • The causes of Fibromyalgia aren’t that well researched and documented. All that can be decided is that there is no one common cause.
  • The muscular aches and pains can come on gradually, as the body gets tired and run down.
  • Or, may come on suddenly after:
    • infection
    • illness
    • injury
    • emotional upset
  • Or may be a combination of both situations.
  • It is likely that there are a number of underlying factors involved, weakening your whole body’s operating systems.
  • I found it highly beneficial to identify what the underlying causes might be in my own particular case. I took a very quick and easy health test, which identified for me:
    • The foods I had become intolerant of
    • Vitamin and mineral deficiencies
    • Other stresses on my body
  • Once I had addressed these factors, I did see a huge improvement in my levels of pain, my overall level of health, and as an added bonus, even lost a few stone in weight too!

Fibromyalgia Pain Relief and Sleep Aid

  • Unfortunately, there aren’t any conventional remedies to effectively treat Fibromyalgia symptoms, and provide muscle and joint pain relief.
  • Doctors sometimes prescribe conventional painkillers, which rarely work - Find out why.
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs don’t seem to work against Fibromyalgia for pain relief. A sleep aid, such as sleeping tablets, may get you off to sleep, but the quality of sleep lessens even more, and does not help the problem in the long term.
  • Anti-depressants are quite often described, which:
    • ease depression
    • soothe anxiety
    • relieve pain
    • assist sleep

These do work quite well, in some (but not all!) cases. (Find out how psychological aspects can affect pain)

  • It is, of course, up to you, in discussion with your healthcare provider, as to which Fibromyalgia pain relief and sleep aids you find effective.
  • I found much muscle and joint pain relief, and insomnia cures with natural health remedies, so I am sure that you too can find some forms of effective alternative pain relief and treatments that will work well for you….

Magnet Therapy

  • I found that healing magnets were perhaps the most effective muscle and joint pain relief for me.
  • I already knew how effective magnetic therapy bracelets could be, for conditions like arthritis, rheumatism, sports injuries, sprains and strained muscles – but I wasn’t actually sure that it could work for the joint pain symptoms and muscular pain relief of Fibromyalgia - where the causes of pain seem so different than these other illnesses.
  • Thankfully, I did try a magnetic therapy bracelet, and found it actually worked really well to soothe my aches and pains.
  • I wear 2 all the time now, and most of the time I am mainly pain free. Any pains I do have are much shorter lasting than previously too.

Acupuncture and Acupressure

  • Acupuncture and Acupressure are very useful holistic remedies for dealing with any kind of pain – particularly muscle and joint pain relief.
  • Acupuncture is thought to be especially effective for Fibromyalgia pain relief, and as a sleep aid, restoring normal sleeping patterns too.
  • To treat Fibromyalgia, electro-acupuncture is thought to work very well. This uses a low intensity, pulsing electric current through the needles, which works to relieve pain.
  • Always consult a qualified practitioner. Several, or regular, sessions will most likely be needed.

Massage and Aromatherapy

  • Massage of any kind is a very effective muscular pain relief treatment.
  • Massage relaxes the muscles, and relieves muscular tension and pain.
  • If you use essential oils in your massage, it will make it even more effective:

    • Use 10-15 drops of the following essential oils in 50ml of almond or olive oil
    • Massage gently into the painful muscles and joints
      • eucalyptus
      • rosemary
      • lavender
  • Heat also helps to relax muscles and soothe pain, so try warming the olive oil or almond oil gently (warm only, not hot – do not allow it to boil) before you start your massage.
