There is lots you can do to help your body respond well to the allergens it comes across.
Getting your body in a healthy, happy state will mean it is in the best possible position to respond to the perceived ‘threat,’ that allergens represent to the body. Camomile
- One of the very best natural allergy remedies, for any allergy and any symptom is Camomile.
- This can be taken internally – usually as a tea. Camomile tea bags are widely available. Or you can make your own:
- Use a teaspoon of the herb in a cupful of hot water
- Cover and steep for 10 minutes
- Strain and drink as required
- Camomile is very soothing and gentle. It is one of the best natural allergy remedies, as it cools and soothes any allergic reactions, and is great for digestive upsets too.
- Although drinking the tea will help external reactions, such as skin allergies, you can also bathe your skin in camomile tea too, to soothe your skin.
- You can also buy many ointments, and creams, with camomile in, to soothe your skin too.
- Caution: Take care, as camomile is one of the daisy family. If you are allergic to other members of the daisy family (such as ragweed) you may also be allergic to camomile too.

Homeopathy
- It is best to consult a qualified homeopathic consultant.
- This natural allergy remedy is said to be very effective. But do be warned – as your symptoms may temporarily get worse before they get better, as the body cleanses itself and re-balances it’s responses.

- Acupuncture can really help to relieve allergies - but you should make sure you go to a qualified practitioner.

Ionisation
- Although they are quite expensive, ionisation machines can be very effective at reducing allergy symptoms.
- They work on airborne pollutants such as dust, pet hair, pollens, chemical sprays etc.
- The machines create air particles with a negative ion charge. This is the same kind of pure, clean air that you get in the mountains, at the seaside or near lakes and rivers.
- You can also get cheaper, small, plug-in ionisers – which I use! These do work, but not quite to the extent of the larger machines. If you are short of space or cash though, they are a great option.
- You can get the same ionisation effect, plus a great feature for your room, from natural salt lamps.
- I have 3 in my home, and use them regularly for their health benefits and soothing glow.

Bach Flower Remedies

- For skin allergies try rescue remedy cream applied onto your skin.

Vitamin C
- This must be my personal favorite of all the natural allergy remedies. This is because it is so cheap, simple and something that I would be doing anyway, allergies or not, to help my general level of health.
- I take a high dose of Vitamin C every day, as a preventative medicine, to keep myself generally healthy, and pretty much allergy free.
- I take 1000mg per day (2 doses of 500mg). My Dad actually takes up to 3000mg per day.
- Vitamin C is safe to take in high doses. You know you have taken too much if it upsets your stomach a little. If this happens, there is no need to worry – just reduce your dose a little.
- Both myself and my fiancé have found a huge improvement in our hay fever symptoms, after taking these high doses of Vitamin C. I hope it works for you too…!

Relaxation Techniques
- Any therapy which relaxes you, and helps to reduce stress and anxiety will improve your body’s own healing state. This will help healing of all illnesses and conditions, including allergies, asthma, hay fever and eczema.
- The body cannot operate at full efficiency when it is in a ‘stressed’ state. Being constantly or regularly in this state does wear the body’s resources down, and makes it much harder to stay healthy, or heal from illness or injury.
- Pick whichever relaxation technique seems to appeal to you…
- Yoga is a really good one to try. It uses physical movements and positions to bring relaxation to body and mind.
- Yoga is very widely available. It can be practised locally at classes, or at home, with the help of books and videos.
