Frozen Shoulder- One of the most common causes of shoulder pain is a frozen shoulder.
- In a frozen shoulder, the actual shoulder joint ‘capsule’ itself becomes inflamed.
- A frozen shoulder is very painful, and movement of the shoulder is very restricted. You might especially find that sideways movement of the arm is the most painful.
- Because of the pain and difficulty in movement:
- the muscles start to weaken
- the interior of the joint capsule starts to dry up
- the linings of the joint capsule start to stick together
- This makes the pain even worse, and movement of the shoulder becomes even more restricted.
- The pain usually eases off after several months, but it is quite common to take up to 18 months to recover fully from a frozen shoulder. Sometimes patients never quite recover the full range of movement from their shoulder.

- If possible, try to act before your shoulder becomes too stiff.
